28.02.24 • We are expanding our portfolio to include a format-changing drive system based on stepper motors. The system offers machine builders a solution for the resource-friendly implementation of adjusting axes with both open-loop and closed-loop control. Visitors to this year's Anuga FoodTec will be able to see for themselves what the new portfolio for use in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries looks like.

SEW EURODRIVE takes steps to boost sustainability

We are showcasing our new format-changing drive system, with a particular focus on format adjustment for packaging applications in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors. The Bruchsal-based drive specialist is thus expanding its 48 V portfolio and further enhancing its automation technology product range. The system combines software and hardware components for efficient, resource-friendly engineering of adjusting axes.

The portfolio consists of five different stepper motors in sizes NEMA23 and NEMA34, a stepper motor module that belongs to the existing MOVI‑PLC® I/O system portfolio, the necessary cabling, and a prefabricated software module. These components, which facilitate and speed up integration into machinery, enable resource-friendly format adjustment with open-loop control. Closed-loop applications in field-oriented operation are also possible.

Besides facilitating precise format adjustments in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, this new portfolio also reduces dependency on pneumatic systems, for example. This results in a lower total cost of ownership, eliminates the need for compressed air infrastructure, makes the carbon footprint much smaller, and improves energy efficiency in production. We are thus paving the way for new approaches to sustainable automation solutions.
